Supporting recovery

A simple, operational and structuring clinical framework for the patient in practice: the S.E.C.A. model, designed for care, liaison and lasting recovery.

My care model: S.E.C.A.

Four complementary pillars for coherent support, from first contact to consolidation follow-up.

Care

Harm reduction, CBT and stabilisation through medical liaison.

Listening

Motivational interviewing and welcoming the life story, without judgement.

Guidance

Psychoeducation (Karila's 5 Cs) and guidance towards mental health.

Support

Close follow-up, network liaison and lasting empowerment.

A simple, operational and structuring framework for the patient in private practice.

The reading grid: Karila's 5 Cs

A clinical reading of addiction to guide each stage of support.

Control

Loss of control.

Consumption

Irrepressible urge to use.

Consequences

Continued use despite negative consequences.

Continued

Continued use.

Compulsion

Compulsive activity.

Motivational interviewing: alliance & engagement

The patient is the expert on their own experience. My role is to elicit change through active listening, without confrontation.

  • Empathy : Key to success in practice.
  • Ambivalence : Explore the obstacles without confrontation.
  • Self-efficacy : Strengthen the patient's confidence.

Action & flexibility: CBT & ACT

CBT approach

Functional analysis, identification of triggers and learning of new behaviours.

ACT approach

Acceptance of difficult emotions and commitment to what matters to the patient (values).

Moving from fighting the substance to investing in life.

Ethics of care: harm reduction & recovery

Harm reduction

Pragmatism above all: protecting overall health (physical, social, psychological), even when abstinence is not the immediate goal.

Empowerment

Supporting the patient so they become the driver of their own journey again, with the help of expert patients if needed.

Liaison: a link in the network

  • Coordination : Direct link with prescribing doctors and psychiatrists.
  • Continuity : Post-treatment support and consolidation follow-up in practice.
  • Availability : A dedicated format ensuring responsiveness and quality time for discussion.
  • Family liaison : Support and information for relatives (systemic approach).
